Worth knowing before you change anything

Whoever took your money usually controls the booking. If you paid a travel site, changes often go through them, not the rental counter.
A change can reprice the whole booking at today's rates, not just the days you're adding.
Prepaid bookings usually carry cancellation fees, and a no-show can lose the whole prepayment.
Some sites can't edit a car booking at all. The change is a cancellation and a fresh booking, so the new price matters.

Your agent checks all of this against your booking before anything is changed.

The day before pickup: a 2-minute checklist

Names match: the main driver's name on the booking matches their licence and the credit card they'll show. See booked by someone else.
Card ready: a credit card in the driver's own name, with room for the deposit hold on top of the rental. See card declined.
Pickup address checked: is the counter in the terminal, at a rental car centre, or off-airport by shuttle? Use the airport counter finder.
Flight number on the booking, so the counter can see a delay. See flight delayed.
Opening hours: city and hotel branches can close early, especially on Sundays.
Drivers: anyone else who'll drive comes to the counter with their licence.
Cover decided: know whether your card or policy covers the car before the counter asks. See card cover, card by card.
