Paying with a debit card at Alamo

• Pay Now bookings don't accept debit cards. You need a major credit card, and it must be the same card you prepaid with.
• Debit cards with a Visa, Mastercard or Discover logo are accepted for pay-later bookings. Prepaid cards aren't. Discover isn't accepted at Canadian airports.
• Charges are taken from your account at pickup, and you're responsible for any overdraft fees.
• No return ticket? You'll need a credit card covering the full estimated cost plus a $300 to $400 deposit.
• With a debit card, the only extra driver allowed is your spouse or domestic partner.

Extra drivers

Your spouse or domestic partner drives free. Other drivers cost $15 a day each, or $5 a day in New York state, unless a business partner or contract rule waives it.

Renting under 25

Drivers under 25 usually pay a young driver fee at Alamo.

The amount depends on your pickup location. Leave your number and we'll confirm it for your booking.

Cancelling or not turning up

• Pay later, no card used to secure it: free to cancel at any time.
• Pay Now: cancel more than 24 hours ahead and the fee is $50 (CAD $65). Cancel within 24 hours or don't turn up, and it's $100 (CAD $135). If the rental cost less than the fee, you're charged whichever is lower.
• Optional cover booked in advance can be dropped at the counter with no fee.

Tolls and fines: why charges arrive late

Tolls and traffic fines are charged straight to the card on your rental agreement, often one to four weeks later, sometimes longer. Alamo adds an administrative fee, even if you pay the authority directly.

How much is the Alamo deposit?

Without a ticketed return trip, Alamo needs a credit card covering the estimated rental plus a deposit of $300 to $400, depending on the location and the car class.

Can I rent from Alamo with a debit card at the airport?

Yes, if you show a ticketed return trip and the address on your licence matches your home address. Debit cards aren't accepted for Pay Now bookings.

Can I prepay an Alamo rental with a debit card?

No. Pay Now bookings need a credit card, and you must show the same card at pickup.

What is Alamo's cancellation fee?
