Help with your Dollar rental

Independent help. OneCall Rental is not Dollar and is not part of Dollar. We can't see your Dollar account, but we can help you deal with them.

The short answer

Dollar's young renter fee is $25 a day in most US states, and $52 a day in New York, Michigan, Alabama and Nebraska. Debit cards only work for compact to full-size cars, usually after a credit check. Here's what to know, and where a real person can help.

Paying with a debit card at Dollar

  • Debit cards need a Visa, Mastercard or Discover logo, and only work for compact to full-size cars. Premium cars and convertibles are excluded.
  • Prepaid (Pay Now) bookings need a credit card. Debit isn't accepted for them.
  • At airports: you need proof of a return ticket plus two forms of ID, such as your licence and a passport or a second card in the same name.
  • Away from airports: you need to be 25 or older and book at least a day ahead, with two forms of ID plus either a return ticket or a corporate discount number.
  • In most cases Dollar runs a credit check. If it isn't approved, the rental is declined.
  • Franchise locations can set their own rules.

The extra hold on top of the rental is bigger on a debit card than on a credit card, and the exact amount isn't the same everywhere. Leave your number and we'll confirm it for your booking.

Renting under 25

  • New York and Michigan: from age 18, $52 a day.
  • Alabama and Nebraska: from age 19, $52 a day.
  • Other US states: from age 20, $25 a day.
  • Canada: from age 20 (18 in Quebec), CAD $15 a day.

Some specialty cars are off-limits to under-25s.

Cancelling

Prepaid bookings can be cancelled free within 24 hours of booking. After that, cancelling more than 24 hours before pickup costs $100.

Cancelling closer to pickup? Leave your number and we'll confirm it for your booking.

Tolls (PlatePass)

PlatePass is an optional daily fee that covers all electronic tolls, and the price varies by state. If you decline it but still drive through electronic tolls, Dollar charges an admin fee plus the tolls at the highest undiscounted rate.

Dollar, Thrifty and Hertz

All three are run by the same company, but each brand has its own prices and rules.
