Help with your National rental
Independent help. OneCall Rental is not National and is not part of National. We can't see your National account, but we can help you deal with them.
The short answer
National accepts debit cards, but at airports only with a return ticket. In Canada, Canadian debit cards aren't accepted at airport locations at all. Here's what to know, and where a real person can help.

Paying with a debit card at National
- At airports: a debit card is accepted only if you show a ticketed return travel itinerary.
- Canada: airport locations don't accept Canadian debit cards. US and international debit cards work only with a return ticket.
- The name and address on your driving licence must match your current home address. Active-duty military are exempt.
- At airports, a debit card is only accepted with a ticketed return trip, and the address on your licence must match your home address. Active-duty military are exempt from the address rule.
- Charges are taken from your account at pickup, and you're responsible for any overdraft fees.
- No return ticket? You'll need a credit card covering the full estimated cost plus a $300 to $400 deposit.
- With a debit card, the only extra driver allowed is your spouse or domestic partner.
- Gift cards can't be used to secure a rental, only to pay at the end, and only if they carry a Visa, Mastercard or Amex logo.
Renting from National under 25
The minimum age is 21. Drivers aged 21 to 24 may pay a Youthful Surcharge that averages about $25 a day, though it varies by location. Two states set their own rates:
- New York: $68.75 a day for ages 18 to 20, and $33.25 a day for ages 21 to 24.
- Michigan: $34 a day for ages 18 to 20, and $15.50 a day for ages 21 to 24.
Cancelling
National asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before pickup. Whether a fee applies depends on how you booked and whether you prepaid.
Don't cancel blind. Leave your number and we'll confirm it for your booking.
National, Enterprise and Alamo
All three are run by the same company, but each brand has its own counters, prices and rules.
